Shirley Vector Spray Event August 28 2019

Shirley 2019: updated Aug. 30, 2019 8:54am

Mosquitoes with Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) Virus were confirmed August 19 in a surveillance trap set August 17 by MDPH in the southern part of Shirley near the Lancaster border. Working with the Shirley Town Administrator and other departments, truck-mounted Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) spraying was done in the area below on August 29 after sunset (postponed from Aug. 28 due to weather).

It’s important to note that spraying can reduce but not eliminate the threat of mosquito-borne illness in the areas that are sprayed. That’s why it’s important for individuals to continue to take personal precautions against mosquito bites, both before and after any spraying is conducted.
