Epi Week #32 - 2015 General Statements

Aug 9 - 15

West Nile Virus activity continued this week, with 9 new arbovirus-positive mosquito pools. Of 9, all were from the Culex pipiens/restuans complex. We now have 21 communities at a WNV risk level of MODERATE, in Middlesex, Norfolk, and Suffolk Counties. EEEv still remains undetected.

Weather

A significant band of rain passed through at the end of Epi Week 32, delivering precipitation to most of the state (the map shows a gap in Middlesex County, where the rain was spotty, but we know from local reports that Framingham/Natick was hit particularly hard, and other towns in the county probably were as well. The outlook for end of Epi Week 33/start of Epi Week 34 is continued above-normal temperatures. In addition, Tropical Storm Danny has formed in the Atlantic and is expected to become a hurricane by end of Epi Week 32. It’s too far off in the Caribbean to predict any impact on mainland US, just something to keep an eye on.
