Hopedale 2018: updated 7/9/18

Mosquitoes with West Nile Virus were confirmed June 27in a surveillance trap set June 20 by CMMCP in the central part of town off Rt. 16 near the Mendon line. Working with the Hopedale Board of Health, truck-mounted Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) spraying was done in the area below on July 2 after sunset.

Catch basins were treated in this area in this area to stop emergence of mosquito species that can carry WNV, and additional surveillance traps have been set up to gauge population density and determine if additional virus can be isolated.

It’s important to note that spraying can only reduce but not eliminate the threat of mosquitoborne illness in the areas that are sprayed. That’s why it’s important for individuals to continue to take personal precautions against mosquito bites — both before and after any spraying is conducted.
